A sign of habitation introduces a measure the body can recognize. Against stone, that familiar scale can make the landscape's magnitude more immediate rather than less remote. The relationship is not simply one of opposition: a human presence becomes part of the place while continuing to reveal how far its surroundings exceed ordinary proportions.
